CLASSMATES

The classmates are on stage a lot of the time! They will become a team together! All classmates need to be able to sing, dance and follow instructions as well as portray fantastic acting and facial expressions. They will need to attend more rehearsals than most, so will need to be extremely dedicated.

All classmates can be played by either gender. 

All main roles will need to audition on Saturday 9th November.  Rehearsal and instrumental tracks will be sent upon receipt of application form but monologues can be found within the pack.

Matilda 

Double Cast

(Ideally not taller than 140cm) 

The hero of the show! Resilient, brilliant, creative and kind despite growing up in difficult circumstances. They wIll need to sing, dance and be a very confident actor who is able to listen to instructions and learn lines incredibly quickly as well as adapt to changes well.

Eric (-8 yrs)

Single Cast

Eric has the very first solo line of the entire show. 

With lots of singing opportunities this role needs a strong singer and dancer who is able to portray brilliant facial expressions too!

Bruce 

Double or Single Cast 

Bruce has some big solo opportunities and his huge moments scene as he takes on Trunchbull with her cake punishment scene. 

Requires a singer who is able to project and belt the songs as well as someone who is able to act with great facial expressions. 

Amanda (-9 yrs)

Single Cast

The student that gets thrown by Trunchbull for wearing her hair in plaits! 

Must be a good singer, actor, and must be able to follow dance instructions as well as portray fantastic facial expressions. 

Lavender

Single Cast

Matilda's Best Friend with a few solo opportunities. Her big solo being BaRalena in Miracle with her big squeeking vocals! 

Tommy (11+)

Single Cast

Must be a good singer, actor, and must be able to follow dance instructions as well as portray fantastic facial expressions. 

Alice 

Single Cast

Must be a good singer, actor, and must be able to follow dance instructions as well as portray fantastic facial expressions. 

Nigel

Single Cast

Must be a good singer, actor, and must be able to follow dance instructions as well as portray fantastic facial expressions. His moment is hiding under a pile of blazers from Trunchbull!

Hortensia (11+)

Single Cast

Must be a good singer, actor, and must be able to follow dance instructions as well as portray fantastic facial expressions. 

OTHER MAIN ROLES

There are some really great roles, each playing a huge part in the production!

Trunchbull (11+)

Single Cast

A very confident actor who has the ability to be able to portray humour well! A comedy role as well as a villain role!

Miss Honey (11+)

Double Cast

This role requires a very skilled singer who is confident when performing harder repertoire. 

Miss Honey is a gentle, nervous character who is very timid and kind.

Librarian (11+)

Single Cast

The librarian who becomes close to Matilda and listens to all of her storytelling, she too narrates parts of the show. 

Mr Wormwood

Double Cast

A huge comedy role which requires great acting and control along with not worrying about looking silly. No singing in this role.

Mrs Wormwood 

Double Cast

A huge comedy role which requires great acting and control along with not worrying about looking silly. No singing in this role but must be a good and confident dancer. 

Michael 

Single Cast

He is lazy, and says only one word but a lot! 

A funny character of a stroppy teenage boy.

Acrobat

Single Cast

Acrobat is a female in Matilda's imagination. 

Escapologist

Single Cast

The husband of the acrobat who has to escape from the cage to save his wife. Another character in Matilda's imagination.

Rudolpho

Single Cast

Mrs Wormwood's dance teacher who never stops moving! Must be confident in dance, and happy to look silly!
